Critical Island Studies Seminar Spring 2025

During this seminar, students were assigned to write a short article about an environmental or coastal topic that interested them.

The goal of this assignment was to teach students how to write advocacy narrative anthropology articles for a general audience. At the start of the semester, students proposed and discussed their ideas. They then began the drafting process. The final step before submission was the peer review process. This project lasted the entire semester.

The assignment helped students learn to draft, refine, and edit their ideas and writing, while researching an environmental issue they cared about. Students could choose to publish their work (or not), and at the end of the semester, Prof. Lloréns chose half of the articles to publish here. The goal was for students to complete a semester-long advocacy narrative article that showcased their learning.

Prof. Lloréns was the principal editor of all the drafts, providing line-by-line edits and suggestions for development. You can find the articles written by some of the students in this seminar HERE.
